Warsaw, Poland stands still

Every August first, the city of Warsaw Poland stands still for one minute to honor the 200,000 who were killed (mostly mass murders) and commemorate the Warsaw Uprising. On August 1, 1944 the Polish Resistance Home Army began an uprising to liberate Warsaw from Nazi Germany. The plan coincided with the Soviet Army's approach of the area, assuming the German army would retreat. Not only did they not retreat, but instead, the Soviet Army stopped short of carrying out their initial support of the Polish Resistance Home Army.
